A Pharma Social Media Overview

Is your stocking hung?  I put mine up just yesterday.  If your’s still has some room in it, I have a little something for you.

In the giving spirit of the holidays, I am providing a small resource that I put together that provides an overview of what the pharma industry is doing in social media via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and RSS Feeds.

The resource – A Snapshot of Pharma Social Media Activity - is in PDF format and charts out activities with hot links to the social media properties and you should be able to download it- though since I switched blog platforms, I am a little dubious as to my skills.

When examining the overview, it is somewhat surprising to see the breadth and depth of some companies with large social media footprints and is equally surprising to see that some companies do not even have an RSS feed.

To put this together I consulted Wikipedia that had a rather dated listing of the top pharma companies by size, which consumer review of electronic cigarettes is how the resources are listed in the overview.  The Wikipedia entry is using  data to rank the companies by size from health care income in 2008.  Since then, of course, the ranking has changed and some of the companies have been absorbed into others.  In any case, in the overview, there are included 38 companies arranged roughly by size.

There are undoubtedly some errors in this list though I thought I would put it up as a flawed gift for the holidays being better than no gift at all.  For example, after initially posting, I caught at least one Facebook page that has been taken down and there are probably others.  In the meantime, if you would like to email me with corrections or leave them as comments to the posting, all instruction will be most welcome, as always.

  1. Thanks for sharing. It is rather interesting when you look at how companies choose to embrace or ignore a communication channel with such potential. We recently wrapped up a member survey over at MedReps to gauge how medical and pharma recruiters and job seekers are using Social Media to fuel their efforts. It certainly seems to be a more widely accepted tool than our last survey indicated back in 2009.
