Social Media Stories in Health and Medicine – The Webicina Competition

For those not familiar with Dr. Bertalan Mesko or the tremendous resource he has created in  Webicina, you are in for a treat.

First a bit about Dr. Mesko – a/k/a @Berci – he is the co-founder of the site and the author of the award-winning blog called Scienceroll.com.  He is an extremely talented speaker, particularly on various aspects of social media and medicine.

Webicina is a site that has contains a curation of social media assets and resources for patients, caregivers and medical professionals pulling together over 80 medical disease and condition specific topics in over 17 languages.  If, for example, you are a patient recently diagnosed with diabetes and you want to read some of the top line materials on subject, Webicina has pulled those resources together.  You can find out news about your condition, a collection of twitter feeds about it, blogs about it, and many other assets.

This month Webicina is staging a competition in medicine and social media with some great prizes – in first place a bran new computer, an iPad2 in second and a third place price of the new Amazon Kindle Fire.   The competition is focused on the submission of stories about how social media has improved you – a patient – in your health management or you – a medical professional to get better in your medical specialty. As the site curates social media platforms, you can tell your story in the platforms of Twitter, Facebook, blogs or YouTube or other social media means.

Story submissions can be sent between yesterday, November 2 and ending on November 30,  2011.  For details on the competition and how to enter, go here in the Webicina site and while you are there, check out the great assets the site has to offer. It really is one of the most resourceful collections on medicine and social media around, which is why I’m happy and honored to be on the Webicina Advisory Board.

Good luck!
